I'm thrilled to be one of two featured vocalists for this concert! Hosted by Tony Award-winning lyricist, playwright, and broadcaster Murray Horwitz, this concert explores the diverse roots and global impact of the classic American Popular Song era, highlighting how timeless works by legendary composers continue to be a reflection of who we are as Americans. In this 250th birthday year, it’s worth asking: how did American popular music conquer the world? The answer starts with the works of Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Johnny Mercer, Duke Ellington, Dorothy Fields, Fats Waller, The Gershwins, and a host of other brilliant songwriters. Their music and lyrics are a reflection of the spirit and vibrant mixture that is America. Featuring incredible local DC-area talent, including percussionist Chuck Redd and pianist William Knowles.
